ATP testing is an instant process measuring actively growing microorganisms through detection of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP.

Presco Environmental technician, Drury, performing ATP testing

The hygiene process involves two consecutive steps: cleaning then sanitisation.  Cleaning removes food residue from product contact surfaces.  Sanitisation eliminates or minimises the presence of microorganisms that pose a risk to food safety and product quality.  A surface cannot be sanitised if it is not clean.

ATP testing provides instant verification of the cleaning done by detecting any ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) proteins on a surface.  If there are no ATPs, the surface can be sanitised.

Presco Environmental technicians are specifically trained to perform ATP testing post-clean for instant verification and will provide reports of test results for documented evidence.

ATP monitoring does not replace microbiological swab sampling, but it is proven the most suitable preventative method to confirm the effectiveness of cleaning procedures.
